Hodge Products Alto Saxophone Silk Swab Review

Hey everyone! Recently, Hodge Products kindly sent me an alto sax silk swab and a reed case. If you have never heard of them, be sure to read this review and the upcoming one on the reed case. They are a great company and have great prices.

First Impressions: Silk is a very absorbent material and a great choice for an alto saxophone swab. The weight on the end of the string helps to easily guide the swab through the saxophone, and with an absorbent material that can fit in varying widths of the instrument, this swab is very effective for us with a fully assembled saxophone. Hodge Products sent me a burgundy swab, just one of their seven different colors.

Design: The swab consists of a triangular shaped swab that is connected to a string. On the other end of the string is a weight. Since silk can be squeezed through tight spots, it will not get stuck in your instrument (which almost happened to me with another sax swab).

Cost: $15.00

Pros:
  • Will soak up all spit/condensation
  • Cheap and easy to use
  • can be washed in the washing machine
Cons:
  • none! :)
Rating: 5/5 stars
Cleaning your instrument is essential to prolonging the life of it as well as preventing rust and other things from forming/growing. So a saxophone swab or pad saver is a basic accessory that should be owned by every saxophone player. Hodge Products' silk swab is a great investment, easy to use and overall, very good.
